TOWARDS THE CONSTITUTION OF A NEW THINK-TANK FOR A POST-CAPITALIST TRANSITION IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
The Institute of Radical Imagination is a think-tank inviting experts – political scientists, economists, lawyers, architects, hackers, activists, artists and cultural producers to share knowledge on a continuous base with the aim of defining and implementing zones of post-capitalism in Europe’s South and the Mediterranean. The think-tank works nomadically across the nodes of the network – Madrid, Athens, Istanbul, Cairo, Palestine, Naples – and connects with other nodes in “global south” – Eastern Europe, Latin America, South-East Asia.
IRI is a hybrid between a travelling research centre, a refuge for intellectuals and artists at risk, a radical museum and a policy-making body generating ideas and applied knowledge that respond to specific urgent needs on the ground – more than a structure, an intellectual logistical infrastructure operating across existing arts, academic and activist networks.
With the collaboration of the Solidarity School Mesopotamia and the Open School Piraeus, the Institute of Radical Imagination created a space to reflect on practices of radical pedagogy and set up together with solidarity schools for social activation and political prefiguration of education in the commons.
The theme of the meeting is Radical Education. An action-intervention bring together interested actors in a workshop organized by IRI together with the LUC (Laboratory on Urban Commons) focuses on forms of radical education from the experience of Athens solidarity schools network.
La Ingobernable CSO, is a key space when it comes to the common thinking in Madrid. The second IRI meeting, held in Madrid, occurred in parallel with the “Master” in Urban Commons and both sessions took place at La Ingobernable, which had a central role in designing and realizing the Master, developed along other common spaces as L’Asilo (Naples) or La Casa Invisible (Málaga), conceived as an action intervention for the legalization of the commons.
La Ingobernable is an occupied social centre in the heart of the city of Madrid facing constant threats of eviction, due the fact the city council doesn’t recognize it’s central function and value for everyday’s life in common for the inhabitants of Madrid..
La Ingobernable launched a support campaign based on the document that they are presenting to the city council with the purpose of opening a dialogue with the government of the mayor Manuela Carmena. IRI strongly believes on supporting this values and encourages to show your support and invites you to sign the letter.
